Vatican denounced execution

CBC News: “In an interview published in an Italian daily earlier in the week, the Vatican’s top prelate for justice issues, Cardinal Renato Martino, said executing Saddam would mean punishing “a crime with another crime.”

He has a point.  One of my relatives said the same thing when we told her about the execution; the first thing that came out of her mouth was, “oh, that is just being like him”.

They probably did him a favor by killing him. The real punishment would be rotting in jail by continuously being reminded of all the terrible crimes he perpetrated.

In the majority of the cases, I don’t think anyone of us have the right to kill a fellow human being no matter how heinous the crime might be. We should just lock such people up and throw the keys and let God pass the ultimate judgement.

Saddam gone

Here there was a man who used to send people to their deaths while puffing a Cuban cigar (video that I saw in one of their party meetings), and the numerous sufferings and deaths committed under his leadership (from the extensive reportings), and later when routed by the American forces, he was found in a hole, pistol in hand, and reportedly asked to negotiate with Mr. Bush.

This morning, he was hanged.

We had someone quite similar to Mr. Hussien. His name is Mengestu Hailemariam.

Islamists defeated

NewYork Times: “The Islamist forces who have controlled much of Somalia in recent months suddenly vanished from the streets of the capital, Mogadishu, residents said Wednesday night, just as thousands of rival troops massed 15 miles away.”

The above is the latest on the war that I read on NewYork times. I think it was yesterday, (I just don’t have the time to look for it now), New York Times reported that the two main Islamist leaders were in Saudi Arabia on a Hajj trip. That pretty much says a lot about who these Islamic fanatics are; they deceived their young, innocent and uneducated youth to their death, while they probably sleep with their many wives in the comfort of their stolen sanctuaries.

Even if they fought honorably, they would have lost anyway. It is simple. Their ideals are rotten and stupid. You can’t tell me how to live my life. Trying to dictate ones way of life is inherently stupid and unworkable.

I don’t agree with Mr. Bush on many things (many on approach, not what he is trying to bring about), but I will echo his phrase, “let freedom reign”.

Islamists are retreating

New York Times: “Islamist forces in Somalia beat a hasty retreat today to their stronghold in Mogadishu, Somalia’s battle-scared capital, crumbling faster than anyone expected after a week of attacks by Ethiopian forces.

Burhakaba, a large inland city, fell first, followed by Dinsoor, not far away, and then Bulo Burto, where just a few weeks ago the Islamists in charge were threatening to behead people who did not pray.”

Islamists in retreat, so reported

CNN.com : “Islamic fighters attempting to wrest power from Somalia’s internationally recognized government retreated from the main front line early Tuesday, witnesses said, a day after Ethiopian fighter jets bombed the country’s two main international airports.”

AU is lending it’s support

BBCNews: “The African Union says Ethiopia has the right to intervene militarily in Somalia as it feels threatened by an Islamic militia operating there.”There is something that doesn’t sound right about this. Although I don’t know much details about the whole thing as far as justification on member countries can attack each other etc…, but I think, the organzations stance should have been neutral and one of finding ways to stop the fighting.

BTW, in all of the reporting, where is the voice of the so called internationally recognized government. Or is it that all their statements are being ignored by the media? Why don’t they come out and say, ‘ok, we are the duly elected and recognzed government, and have asked the assitance of the Ethiopian government to come and help us in this fight to stop these fanatical Islamist natzies.’

Apple phone

If you read this article titled “An Apple phone is no slam-dunk”, you get an impression as if the phone is out on the market and bombed. But not so, they are talking about other failed experiences by Sony and other manufactures. I wonder, whoever wrote this, did it on purpose to undercut Apple or a ploy to grab the readers attention.

Vista flawed?

New York Times: “On Dec. 15, a Russian programmer posted a description of a flaw that makes it possible to increase a user’s privileges on all of the company’s recent operating systems, including Vista. “

ET, Somali war

I was talking with a friend of a friend earlier tonight.  We started talking about the war and he is of the view that the war is just a disaster for Ethiopia. He thinks that this could create a fracture within the country along religious lines. I personally don’t think that would be the case. These people are too fanatic, way out there, that they would not have much – if any – sympathy from the local followers.
