Georgetown University: “Today, Georgetown University announced that it will award the fifth annual “John Thompson Legacy of a Dream Award” to the Organization of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS for its leadership and service toward the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The First Lady of Zambia Mrs. Maureen Mwanawasa, the First Lady of Rwanda Mrs. Jeannette Kagame, and the First Lady of Ethiopia Mrs. Azeb Mesfin will receive the award on behalf of the organization, and their work will be honored during the annual “Let Freedom Ring” Concert to be held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, January 15, 2006 at 6:00 p.m.”
Note: The year there is a typo. They meant to write Jan 15, 2007.
OH, well …I have no idea what kind of work she has done, but a humanitarian award “during the annual ‘Let Freedom Ring’ ” theme seemed to be a little inapporpriate.
I wish they listed the kind of work that she had done. But putting her in the same league as Rosa Parks? That is quite a stretch.

Mail and Guardian: “Eritrea warned the United States on Friday that its involvement in Somalia would “incur dangerous consequences” following a US air strike in the Horn of Africa nation targeting al-Qaeda suspects.”
There is something so very funny about this. Eritrea warning the United States, the most powerul nation this world ever known, militarily or economically? Is Isaias a total loon?

Shared networks, Internet, being online is definetly the future. No more going to the video storeor sign up for netflix or one of those mail order type companies to send you movies. Couple of clicks while being online on high speed network will get you all the stuff you need.
When I was back in the States, I don’t recall the last time I was at my bank to deposit or withdraw money. I do all that stuff online and been doing it for a long long time now. It is truely sweet!
In not so distant future, we all will be looking at some type of screens, small (PDAs, mostly Apple iphone
), medium (laptops, desktops), and large (big screen LCDs TVs etc..) majority of our time in a day.

People’s Daily Online: “Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki met visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing on Saturday and both voiced their readiness to further strengthen bilateral ties and China-Africa cooperation, according to sources from Asmara. “
China, it seems to me, work with any administration, despite its records of repression, incompetence, and unjust cruelty, as long as it supports its policies and could be used to make a buck.
So China gets boat load of contracts to build roads, telecommunication networks, and a whole lot of other ventures that aren’t reported, and then turn around and do the same thing with Ethiopians arch enemy, the current Eritrean adminitration to do business, who knows, something that negates what they did and paid for in Ethiopia.
Ok, there were number of administartions, even US administrations that worked with unjust and repressive administrations. The thing that differs sparse US mistakes and the Chinese is that there isn’t much one can do to shame them. They are undemocratic.
I just don’t like governments that would give toys to dictators to lengthen their fetish grip on power. That just ain’t right. And just so shortsighted too.

Abc.net.au: “Heavy fighting has erupted in the Somali capital Mogadishu after gunmen attacked a camp housing Ethiopian troops, hours after government soldiers said they had secured remote regions in the south where Islamist fighters had been holed up. “
The best thing right now is for Meles to go out there and declare that he is pulling out soon, very soon – if he hasn’t done it already. I’m thinking, he has met his objectives, which I presume were todrive the Islamists out of power and reinstate the so called government recognized by the international community. The world has to step up and help finish the job, help the governement sustain whatever grip they have on power.
If this so called government (by name only at the moment) has a good majority of decent people in it, I think, the people will eventually realize that and calm will be restored. But they need to be helped and helped soon, and the people haveto see something tangible on the ground.
If there are a whole lot of thugs than good doers, then we’re all screwed. Remember, regardless of where these wacko Islamists are, they will still be a menace to us all.
Regardless, hope the dying, on either side, stops soon.

Journal Gazette: “Launch ambushes, land mines, raids and suicidal combats until you consume them as the lions and eat their prey,” al-Zawahri said in the taped message that aired on a Web site frequently used by militants and carried the logo of al-Qaida’s media production wing, al-Sahab.”
Isn’t this just totally crazy? How could a self described man of the cloth, someone who says that he believes in God would advoate such a thing, regardless of the cirumstances?
They are again a bunch of cave hugging loons, who amount to nothing.

Bob Nerdelli ,now former CEO of Home Depot, I read, got $220,000,000.00 for getting fired. What a deal!
And he has the nerve to tell us that the ‘board’ that granted him such a pay day as being, “… the most engaged board of any board in America.”
I see and read CEO’s making millions, per month, by selling options. And, they don’t even have to expense the cost. That wasn’t enough, some of them started backdating options so that they would get in when the stock was at the cheapest point. What a scandle!
You know what all this shit is, legalized form of printing money. Let’s say it, in the good ol’ U.S. of A public company CEOs are allowed to print money. They don’t even have to incure the printing cost, as the Fed would, they just take what has already been printed. What a bunch of thieves they are!

NewYork Times: “The prime minister of Ethiopia, Meles Zenawi, said today that his country, one of the poorest in the world, could not afford to keep its troops in neighboring Somalia much longer, and that Somalia’s stability depended on the quick injection of foreign peacekeepers. “
I hope he follows through with that. Right now, the best thing to do is exactly that, get the hell out of Somalia and let them take care of their own affairs.
The Ethiopians have met their objects, i.e. to get the Islamists out of the picture, and that seems to have been achieved. Staying there any longer will be a disaster. Meles is right, it is just financially and Politically unsustainable.
So that all the sacrifices made won’t be in vain, community of nations should do their share to build on this success. I hope AU will be able to urge and organize member nations to contribute troops, and the rich nations to finance the whole thing. Crazy Islamists anywhere is a problem for the entire world, regardless of distance. Responsibility to deal with them should be shared.
