About anything and everything…

Parade in Frankfurt

I’m sitting in one of Frankfurt’s Starbucks. Ok, I know, shame one me, given what they are trying to do to screw Ethiopia’s poor farmers. This is the only American place I could find in this damn city to ‘virtually’ get away, and get my favorite good ol’ American vibe.

Right in front of me, there is a busy traveled road and right now, there is some sort of parade going on. I was just thinking to myself, what the heck is the purpose of all this. Is it some sort of marketing scheme? Or some sort of free entertainment for the people?I see a number of people on both sides of the street. Apparently some people enjoy this sort of spectacle.

I just don’t see the entertainment or whatever value in it.

PM Meles wrote a book?

Interesting read by Leenco Lata, who, it says at the end the article, is associated with OLF (Oromo Libration Front) : ‘Ethiopia: Extracting Prime Minister Meles Zenawi’s Extracts‘.

By the way,  I don’t know much about this, but from my limited knowledge, OLF and parties like it are business entities of the elites in the society they claim to fight for, to satisfy their economic and ego deficiencies.

First shot at Obama and his party

Obama is formally in

Obama is in. Now the honeymoon is over. Does he really think that he will win? Or he is just doing it to soften up the road for other upcoming minority hope-fulls? That would be a noble cause, I believe.

I suppose, it won’t hurt to be referred as a US Senator and former presidential candidate. It sells books, although he currently has no problems with that.

I wonder what the degree of challenge would be for his family. There lives are not going to be the same. That is for sure.

Expect the Republicans, if he survives the primary, which I doubt, pick him apart and tear him down. I can see, a commercial with deep voice announcer, asking, ‘Experience matters. Do you really want to send Barak Hussein Obama to the White House?’

Obama giving it a shot

Does Obama really think that majority of white American would vote for him? That is a nice dream but com’on…

Racism is still in most of our hearts. It will take much more decades, to realize the dream.

In 2007, we’re seeing a number of first times. Ain’t that crazy? Just yesterday, the first black coach won’t the Super Bowl.

It will take a few more decades before we see what Obama and his supporters are dreaming, in reality. But I do admire his gut. It is good for the millions of us out there that, a brother at least gave it a shot. And one day, one smart brother like Obama will finish the job.

China screwing Africa

BBCNews: “Chinese President Hu Jintao has agreed on a series of economic deals in Sudan, which China has protected from UN sanctions over the Darfur conflict.”

Isn’t it sad that Africa is going to be screwed over by China, while reason, transparency, conscious, and mutual benefit seemed to have abated centuries of inequitable relationship with the west?

The Chinese seemed to have moved in full force, protect thugs and killers, as the east – west squabble used to do back 50 or more years ago.

It is just so sad that the same cruel game is going to be played again; the thugs and killers are going to be protected in return for cheaper access to energy, favorable contracts in unfavorable terms, and all sort of other free rides.

Unlike the west, how can one reason with the Chinese?

Tirunesh

nytimes:”Halfway through the women’s 5,000 meters race Saturday at the Boston Indoor Games, Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia was left with nothing chasing her closely but her pompom of a ponytail.”

Way to go, Tirunesh. We’re proud of you.
